Played Carcassonne for the first time, with both kids today* and we all had a good time. Nothing too stressful, aside from Elise waiting for a piece that never came, and easy enough to pick up.
*Separately, which I think helped.

This is so so so so good. Nearly 10 years old now.
Teachers often respond to students in a couple of common ways here:
- They talk about the right answers.
- They ask students to share their answers.
Both responses risk brain death. Neither one necessarily tells students, “There is a task for you here beyond listening.” >Neither one necessarily sets up a shelf in a kid’s mind to help them structure the ideas they’re hearing.
Do you often fall asleep? Aside from going to bed, obviously. I realise I rarely do. If I’m sleeping it’s 100% intentional.
(And i’m 90% doing it even though I don’t want to.)
Didn’t take my book when I went to the library with my class yesterday, between reading with them this one jumped out at me. It teases plenty and caught me. Picked it up despite reading about YA book. No regrets.

Today’s workout was 3x1km rows. To go with the 10x(1min row/2min rest) last Friday and the 5km row last weekend. Pushed the first one and then managed to mostly keep that pace for the second and third one. Though it got exponentially harder to do that. Last km was hard work!

I’m taking this as a sign of an amazing week…
Was aiming for a sub 20minute 5km row but didn’t have it in me today. 4th km I couldn’t hold the pace and didn’t have enough in the tank for the last km. Next time!
Hey, I’d like to stop the ride and get off for a bit please. Is that possible?
Finished reading: SEEKER by Arwen Elys Dayton 📚 I enjoyed this a lot. A magic order (sort of) adjacent to a real-ish world. Barely scratched the surface of the world and I was ok with that. Have already picked up the second from the school library.
Was a guy waiting by the entrance to the warehouse offering to help you take stuff you’ve bought home AND help you putting it up. If i needed it, I would feel comfortable doing it in China, honestly. It reminds me of the time we first went to IKEA in Beijing with friends and got in some guy’s van to take us home. I distinctly remember worrying something bad would happen. See also the time in Beijing, the taxi driver took us down a sketchy path behind a factory. It was just to get the battery swapped out of his car, but similar vibes.
I think I’ll eventually sign up to YouTube to stop watching the Grammarly adverts of people in boats in the office. But! I do like that my home page is blank because my ‘watch history’ is off. Means that I click subscriptions and just see videos from channels I subscribe to. No ‘would you like to watch this’ thrown in - though obviously there are recommended videos when I do click a video.
Conversely, Reddit is always throwing new communities in my feed and I hate it! I hate it, because I can’t be trusted not too click. I am the weakest link.
Indian Food Meets Metal. Such a fun video.

Yesterday after work 5x5 backsquats (100kg, 102.5kg, 105kg, 105kg, 105kg). This morning, up at 5 for 15kg 10ish km ruck in a little around 1 hour 40 minutes. Bricks in the wall. Keeping fit.
Printed some photos. Strange to be holding them, but familiar too. I should do it more.
Narrator: He ain’t gonna.
It’s Friday, again.
Jacob Kiplimo Sets UNPRECEDENTED Half Marathon World Record In Barcelona - YouTube
Decent video about this world record. The splits he runs are just unreal.
September 26th 2004. This must be a scan of a photo. My first Flickr photo!
Dangers lurk at the bottom of the bed!
Did some work. Another brick in the wall.

Wow. This is nostalgic. Guess, I’ll start posting some of my old Flickr photos soon. I guess I started around 2004, I think. I think my first photos on Flickr were scans of photos of a holiday in Mauritius.

Personal growth is the process of learning to lie to ourselves less.
Finally back to the gym after a week off. Still getting older and stronger but not slimmer. Happy with a 2 rep max hang power clean at 92.5kg (204lbs) after doing nothing for a week.
